Hourly Rate: $75–$100/hour

Approximately 15 hours per week · Flexible schedule

About the Role

This contract opportunity is for experienced financial-crime, AML, KYC, sanctions, fraud, or transaction-monitoring professionals.

You’ll complete realistic, self-contained case exercises using mock files and produce professional analyst work products based on established review standards. The work covers transaction monitoring, customer due diligence, beneficial ownership, sanctions screening, adverse media, fraud and disputes, and related financial-crime investigations.

All exercises use mock information and do not require access to live systems or client data.

What You’ll Do

  • Adjudicate transaction-monitoring alerts using alert information, KYC/CDD profiles, and transaction histories.

  • Document alert dispositions and prepare SAR narratives when the available facts warrant escalation or reporting.

  • Review client onboarding and KYC documentation for completeness, inconsistencies, and cross-document discrepancies.

  • Produce clear remediation lists identifying missing, inconsistent, or insufficient information.

  • Analyze complex beneficial-ownership structures and apply applicable 10% and 25% UBO thresholds.

  • Review sanctions and adverse-media screening results and determine whether each is a true match, false positive, or requires escalation.

  • Triage supervisory alert queues and assess cases requiring additional investigation.

  • Adjudicate card-fraud and dispute cases using the available case information.

  • Review flagged communications against relevant trade records and document the appropriate assessment.

  • Produce clear, defensible written rationales that explain investigative decisions and conclusions.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on professional experience in AML, financial crime, KYC/CDD, sanctions screening, fraud and disputes, transaction surveillance, or a closely related function.

  • Experience working within a bank, fintech, payments company, money services business, or comparable financial-services environment.

  • Working knowledge of FinCEN, FATF, and OFAC frameworks.

  • Familiarity with SAR and CDD documentation standards.

  • Strong analytical judgment when reviewing transaction activity, customer information, screening results, and investigative evidence.

  • Ability to produce concise, well-supported, and defensible written rationales.

  • Strong attention to detail when identifying discrepancies, ownership structures, and potential risk indicators.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CAMS or ACAMS certification.

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification.

  • Experience conducting enhanced due diligence and complex entity unwinding.

  • SQL or transaction analytics experience.

  • Experience within fintech, payments, or other technology-driven financial-services environments.

  • Experience handling complex beneficial-ownership or multi-layer entity structures.

Who Should Apply

This role is suited to AML, KYC, financial-crime, sanctions, fraud, and transaction-monitoring professionals who are comfortable making evidence-based case decisions and documenting the reasoning behind them.

You should be able to distinguish genuine risk from false positives, identify gaps in customer documentation, interpret complex ownership structures, and communicate conclusions clearly enough to withstand review.

Assessment

Applicants will complete a timed practical exercise based on realistic mock cases, including:

  • A transaction-monitoring alert packet requiring a disposition and SAR narrative.

  • A KYC packet requiring identification of discrepancies and preparation of a remediation list.

  • A batch of sanctions screening hits requiring adjudication and a written rationale for each.

Compensation & Engagement

  • Hourly rate: $75–$100/hour, based on experience.

  • Annual compensation equivalent: $156,000–$208,000.

  • Annual equivalent is calculated at 40 hours per week × 52 weeks per year and is provided for comparison.

  • Expected workload is approximately 15 hours per week.

  • Actual earnings depend on hours worked and project availability.

Contract & Payment Terms

  • Independent contractor engagement.

  • Fully remote and US-based.

  • Flexible working schedule.

  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on project requirements and performance.

  • Work is based on mock files and does not require access to confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, or institution.

  • Weekly payments through Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.

  • H-1B and STEM OPT candidates are not supported for this opportunity.

  • Fully remote contract role open to candidates in United States.
  • Compensation: $156,000 - $208,000/year, paid in USD.
  • Vetted and managed by Recruitment Room — no placement fees for candidates.
  • Flexible hours; part-time and full-time engagements available.
